The foliage is aromatic, releasing a pleasant lemony scent when crushed. The golden colour adds ornamental value and looks gorgeous whether planted amongst other herbs into containers, as well as out into sprawling kitchen garden beds to complement other fruits, vegetables and herbs.

Like many thyme varieties, Golden Thyme produces small, lavender to pinkish flowers in summer. While the flowers are not the main attraction, they contribute to the overall appeal of the plant and attract bees and butterflies for a feast.

Flavour-wise, this variety is very similar to classic thyme but with a with a fresh subtle lemony twist. The leaves can be used in various culinary applications to add both flavour and visual interest to dishes from salads and soups to sandwiches and cocktails.

This thyme variety typically has a low, spreading growth habit. It forms a dense mat of foliage, making it an excellent choice for ground cover or as an edging plant in herb gardens, as well as for hanging baskets.

Golden Thyme thrives in well-drained soil and prefers a sunny location. Like other thyme varieties, it is relatively drought-tolerant once established making it a great low-maintenance options for those of you who are short on time. If you want to get all the tips and tricks on how to grow thyme, be sure to check out our blog.
