Autumn is one of the best times to rediscover the herb garden.

As cooking begins to shift towards roast dinners, soups, stews, casseroles and slow-cooked dishes, hardy Mediterranean herbs really come into their own. These are the flavours that belong with roasted vegetables, warming sauces, Sunday lunches and comforting autumn food.

Our Autumn Kitchen Herb Collection brings together nine wonderfully aromatic herbs chosen to keep the kitchen supplied with fresh flavour as the seasons change. It combines familiar essentials such as rosemary, oregano, sage and chives with a selection of unusual thymes that make everyday autumn cooking considerably more interesting.

The collection contains nine plants:

  • Rosemary – One of the indispensable herbs of autumn cooking. Its intensely aromatic evergreen foliage is wonderful with roast potatoes, vegetables, breads, chicken and countless slow-cooked dishes.
  • Spicy Thyme – A particularly aromatic thyme with a strong, warming fragrance. Brilliant for robust autumn dishes where you want a little more character than you might get from traditional thyme.
  • Thyme Archer’s Gold – A beautiful golden-leaved thyme that earns its place in both the kitchen and the garden. Its bright foliage brings valuable colour to autumn containers and borders while providing aromatic leaves for cooking.
  • Oregano – A kitchen essential with a rich, savoury flavour that works beautifully in tomato sauces, roasted vegetables, pasta dishes, pizzas and Mediterranean-inspired cooking.
  • Purple Sage – Everything we love about traditional culinary sage wrapped up in beautiful purple-grey foliage. Particularly good with stuffing, squash, sausages, roasted vegetables and the rich flavours we naturally start craving as the weather cools.
  • Lemon Thyme – Traditional thyme fragrance with a wonderfully fresh citrus edge. A versatile herb that works particularly well with chicken, fish and vegetables, while also bringing a lighter note to richer autumn dishes.
  • Thyme Doone Valley – A beautiful spreading thyme with wonderfully aromatic foliage. As useful for bringing texture and colour to pots and herb gardens as it is for providing fresh thyme leaves for the kitchen.
  • Orange Thyme – A fascinating thyme with distinctive citrus notes that make it great fun to experiment with. Try it with chicken, roasted vegetables, marinades and dishes where you might ordinarily reach for lemon thyme.
  • Chives – One of the simplest herbs to use and one of the most useful. Snip the fresh leaves straight over potatoes, soups, eggs, sauces and savoury dishes whenever you want a gentle fresh onion flavour.

Together, these nine plants create a proper cook’s autumn herb garden — filled with the deep savoury flavours of rosemary, sage and oregano alongside the citrus, spice and fragrance of four very different thymes.

How big are the plants?

All herbs are supplied in 9cm pots. They will be freshly picked for your order. The condition of the plants is our primary concern when fulfilling your order. The foliage will differ in size throughout the season and may be clipped prior to dispatch. The herbs are not soft grown and have spent time in unheated conditions. They are a product designed not just to last a few days but to be grown on by yourselves and supply flavour for months to come.
