Aztec Sweet Herb is a little known plant which is native to Central and South America, otherwise known as the 'honey herb' due to its intense sweetness with a liquorice twist. Hernadulcin, one of the sweet compounds found within the herb, is estimated to be around 1,000 times sweeter than traditional table sugar creating a unique flavour which is sure to bring joy to your dishes. It's a really gorgeous, interesting and unusual plant that produces attractive flowers during summer and adds great texture into your herb garden.

This plant is perfect for pots and containers with its spreading habit, but will also thrive if planted into the ground making it a fantastically diverse option for a wide range of uses. Aztec Sweet Herb likes tropical and subtropical climates best, so try to position it in as sunny of a spot as you can find in your garden in well-drained soil. You can opt to plant this directly into the ground, or grow it on in a pot and you'll be rewarded with a flush of deliciousness.

Its intensely sweet leaves can be added as a sweetener to drinks such as teas, coffees and hot chocolates, but also in a range of desserts, salads and fruit-based dishes for depth of flavour. This is the herb you never knew you needed in your garden but will be happy to have on hand during the spring and summer months.
