Winter Savory or ‘Satureja montana’ is a fantastic herb. It is easy to grow, hardy and evergreen. Plant it somewhere sunny in nice, free draining soil. Whether you want to grow your herbs in containers, or set them directly into the ground, this variety is a relatively low maintenance option that'll thrive in a variety of environments. It produces pretty white flowers in late summer too - the bees seem to love them and with good reason. It is a great source of nectar for them.

This hugely under-rated herb a must have for your kitchen garden alongside the classics such as rosemary, thyme and oregano. It's spicy tang pairs perfectly with beans, soups and stews, adding a whole new element to your dishes. What's more, its long, think leaves add architectural interest to your spaces all year around.
