"Ginger Mint (Mentha x gracilis 'Variegata' to it’s close friends) is one of the varieties of Mint that we always forget to mention in dispatches. But it is one of the more distinct flavours that you can grow. The leaves smell and taste of Mint, but behind that menthol flavour there is the subtle kick of ginger. It’s not over powering at all, but as you begin to use it you start to appreciate the subtlty. You can chop this variety into salad and it doesn’t overpower the dish. It makes a really nice Ginger Mint Tea.
Its growth habit seems to reflect it’s ‘laid back’ flavour. It grows easily, quickly and gently, always looking slightly lethargic to us as it tumbles out of it’s planter and straight into your kitchen!
Wants to be grown in moist shady conditions, but will grow in most conditions well. Delicious as a compliment to meats, salads or chopped into drinks!
